Background of the Study

Research engagement is a critical component of nursing education, fostering evidence-based practice and contributing to the advancement of healthcare. Nursing educators play a pivotal role in cultivating a research-oriented mindset among students. In Borno State, Nigeria, understanding how educators influence students' involvement in research activities is essential for enhancing educational strategies and improving healthcare outcomes.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the recognized importance of research in nursing, there is limited information on the extent to which nursing educators in Borno State promote research engagement among students. Identifying the roles and challenges of educators in this context is crucial for developing effective interventions to enhance research participation.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the current level of research engagement among nursing students in Borno State.

2. To explore the strategies employed by nursing educators to promote research involvement.

3. To identify the challenges faced by educators in encouraging research activities among students.

Research Questions

1. What is the current level of research engagement among nursing students in Borno State?

2. What strategies do nursing educators use to promote research engagement?

3. What challenges do educators encounter in fostering research involvement among students?

Research Hypotheses

1. Nursing students in Borno State exhibit low levels of research engagement.

2. Nursing educators employ specific strategies to encourage research participation among students.

3. Educators face significant challenges in promoting research engagement, including limited resources and lack of institutional support.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on nursing educators and students in accredited nursing institutions in Borno State. Data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions. Limitations may include potential biases in self-reported data and the generalizability of findings to other regions.

• Research Engagement: Active participation in research activities, including conducting studies, analyzing data, and disseminating findings.

• Nursing Educators: Individuals responsible for teaching and mentoring nursing students, including lecturers, clinical instructors, and professors.
